A dog or cat may need video otoscopy to thoroughly examine their ear canal and eardrum, especially if they have chronic ear infections, excessive earwax, or foreign bodies in the ear. Video otoscopy allows veterinarians to get a clear, magnified view of the ear, helping diagnose and treat conditions like middle ear infections (otitis media), polyps, or tumors. It also aids in deep cleaning of the ear canal and can assist in procedures like removing debris.
